Annual Hydrant Flushing Program
Hydrant flushing is an important process that helps maintain water quality and system reliability by moving water through the mains at high velocity. This removes naturally occurring sediment and mineral buildup that can accumulate in pipes over time.
Why We Flush Hydrants
Routine flushing provides several important benefits, including:

- Improving overall water quality and clarity
- Verifying hydrants are operating correctly for fire protection
- Identifying potential maintenance needs within the distribution system
- Ensuring reliable water flow for customers and emergency services
What Customers May Notice
During flushing activities, customers in nearby areas may temporarily experience:
- Slight discoloration of water
- Reduced water pressure
- Brief periods of cloudy water
These conditions are temporary and do not present a health risk. If discoloration occurs, customers are encouraged to run cold water from a faucet for several minutes until the water clears.
